War of the Beauty: Essence of Beauty Through Music

This post is a part of a continuous series on Woman and Beauty.  Read the others you missed here. Throughout this series I have looked into myself and at the world around me. I have went on a journey of deconstructing and then reconstructing my idea of beauty.

A beautiful woman can change the tone of a room and the actions of a man. I have written satirical pieces about how woman’s noncie runs the world but there is something about a beautiful woman that cannot be denied. But, the world has evolved to only to show the aspects of women being sexual vixens and jezebels. I have written extensively in my War of the Beauty series of the struggles women go through defining their essence of beauty. Some of this lies in the bed of some women but some of it is reflection of some spherical idea pushed by society. A beautiful woman can make a man utterly powerless to her whims. Women have been the inspiration for some of the greatest music composed. There is some music that from just hearing it will make a man think of a beautiful woman in his presence (and I’m not talking about Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop”). I just wanted to do a post that talked about the great beauty we have and seen in the women around us. When you hear songs like these a man will think of the woman he deeply desires or the woman he holds in his arms nightly.

Rick James and Smokey Robinson “Ebony Eyes”

If  you have seen the video you can see how Rick and Smokey’s voyage to get to their beauty gets them stranded on island. When Rick James and Smokey Robinson belted out this hit it was able to give the vision of a woman so beautiful that a man was going to love her because he could see her beautiful soul through her “ebony eyes”.

Snoop Dogg “Beautiful”

This one maybe a shock to you considering  Snoop also spoke about the ills of women (“Bitches Aint shit But Hoes and Tricks” anyone?). But, no one can deny the way that Snoop’s candid verses, the crooning of Charlie Wilson, and Pharrell’s production could make anyone woman feel beautiful.

Goodie Mob “Beautiful Skin”

Goodie Mob weaved this melodic hip hop track in a way of honoring a black woman’s beauty, giving some black women a confidence boost, and showing black men that there is nothing wrong with honoring a black woman’s beauty.

Ruben Studdard- “Make You Feel Beautiful”

Yes! The Big Teddy bear may not have had the success some thought he would. But, this slept on track really puts a man in a place of wanting to see all the sides of a woman’s beauty and making her feel beautiful for who she is.

Dru Hill- “Beauty”

Arguably one of the most sentimental songs delivered from Dru Hill displays a man’s desire to get a beautiful woman’s attention. This Dru Hill song displays the innocence of loving a woman’s grace and beauty and a man’s journey to make her his.

Blackstreet- “Joy”

Blackstreet has so many great ballads but this one may have shown the true happiness a man can feel from being around a woman’s beauty not only on the outside but also the inside because she brings him…Joy.

Damian Marley “Beautiful”

This reggae track featuring the great Bobby Brown shows Damian Marley examining how a woman is beautiful by the simple things she does to show her appreciation for her man. Damian gives beauty a treatment of it being not how you look but who you are.

Michael Jackson- “Butterflies”

Mike’s innocent lyrics with Marsha Ambrosius harmonious background singing will take you mentally to another place. Butterflies is a track that anyone can put on and think about a person that they get overwhelmed in their essence and just get caught with Butterflies.

Marvin Gaye- “Come With me Angel”

From Marvin Gaye’s most sensual album “I Want You”. Marvin displays a woman’s beauty as one of angel. Marvin takes the listener on a journey of a man wanting to be with a woman who is close to that of an angel.

Mint Condition- “Pretty Brown Eyes”

Who can deny this Mint Condition track of woman being so beautiful and constantly not paying any attention to a man’s whims. Every man has been there before. Where a woman was so beautiful and he wanted to move on to another woman but he couldn’t get those pretty brown eyes out of his head.

D’Angelo- “Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes of Mine”
D’Angelo describes how a man can be so captivated by a woman’s beauty that he can be put into a dream-like mind state. A man can hear this song and immediately think of a beautiful woman who has taken over his mind through just being in his eyes.

Prince- “Most Beautiful Girl in the World”

Prince laid it out there plain and simple on this track. Prince doesn’t want anything to be a mystery of who he believes is the most beautiful girl in the world and the essence of a woman is complete. If she is not the most beautiful girl in the world to you why should he want to be with her?

There is nothing wrong with sitting back and truly admiring a woman’s beauty even if you have to do it through song.

  1. This makes me want to go make a mixtape for a nice young lady who maybe coming by this evening cause she is beautiful and so is her behind!!

  2. It’s even better when your girlfriend or wife inspires you to write cheesy poems, I know I couldn’t stop myself for the first few months. Mmmmm, maybe I should get back to it.

As I read your list, I thought about this video of Erikah Badu : http://vimeo.com/24219888
I am used to Erikah being still and all covered up, but she made me stop and stare for a little while. I never put sexy next to Erikah Badu, but now I can.
