Dear FATC,
I have read through a lot of your posts and have never really seen you tackle the idea of drug use in the U.S. My question more specifically revolves around marijuana. Marijuana we have found out helps with many diseases and conditions that are helpful for people. I also personally have never heard of someone hurting someone else by having some weed. My question for an Open Friday is why do you feel America outlaws marijuana and do you think it will ever be legalized? Think of all the federal and state tax dollars that could be made from marijuana sales. California itself could save its state’s economy from its legalization. It’s very pompous and ignorant of this country to outlaw ganja when alcohol, cigarettes, and some prescription drugs are just as or maybe even more harmful to people. Want to see what you and the readers thought on the topic.
Peace
LD
LD,
This question is a very complex one and has been one that has been highly debated in our country. This question has always been peculiar to me because we as people are weird when it comes to what we believe what is right and wrong. In Prohibition it was illegal to have alcohol fast word less than a decade later it’s a multi-billion dollar industry.
One of the biggest reasons that marijuana or drugs aren’t legalized is because the best stuff isn’t made here in America. Some people say that this country cares about people’s health and welfare but alcohol and cigarette smoke kill people just as much and effect society as well. Drunk drivers and 2nd hand smoke are killing just as many people as some drug usage. Also you have to look at the prison industrial complex as well because let’s keep it real there are corporations who make big money on people being incarcerated.
Some people think that at some point the U.S is going to have to legalize marijuana. I am not as optimistic as others. It would be a harder thing to tax because anyone can grow marijuana in their home and wouldn’t necessarily have to go to a dispensary or store. Someone can look u some simply growing instructions online or in High Times and get going. So, will the government make us much as we are thinking if there will be a nice percentage of marijuana users would grow their own at home? And we all know America doesn’t change its rules until it starts to mess with the money or there is a real reason to make money from it. Also didn’t the federal government a few months back just kick in the doors and raid main marijuana dispensaries in California even though medical marijuana is legal? If it was so close to legalization why the Feds coming down so hard?
I have always believed that we ALL get high on something just yours may not be drugs but we ALL get high off of something. At the end of the day I will admit I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to marijuana rights and legislation so why don’t I let the readers chime in.

Marijuana should be legal for the simple fact that it is a plant. If you could get high off of string beans they would make that illegal. Also no one in the history of the world has ever died from a marijuana overdose. In fact, the amount it would take to OD is more than an individual could ever consume.
I’ve never really understood why marijuana is not legal. Although it is in the same category with drugs, there are yet to be ANY deaths reported from it. We have drugs out here that are killing people everyday but doctors and street pharmacists are still selling it, making a profit. Its crazy!
MJ is not nor will it ever be legal for one reason:
1. The FBI, CIA, DOJ and ICE all have stakes in the prison systems. There is too much money to be made off of brown people.
The weed will never be legal because too much money is made on btoh sides from it being illegal. I know drug dealers in Cali who DIDNT want it to be legalized because it will mess up their money
Very good poit! I was reading about dealers wanting it to be illegal so they can cake up more
How many illnesses can be treated with bourbon? None.
How many illnesses can be treated with cigarettes? None.
How many illnesses can be treated with marijuana? 3,510 and counting (according to the AMA)
How many deaths do alcohol and tobacco lead to per year worldwide? 3.1 million (AMA)
How many deaths do marijuana consumption lead to per year worldwide? None.
Hell, even Law Enforcement Officers are against prohibition! (http://unitedblackamerica.com/law-enforcement-against-prohibition-psa/)
Legalize. Now.
